Summary

Fidelity Investments is a market leader in the financial services industry. Founded in 1946 as Fidelity Management & Research Company, the firm managed $13 million in assets in its first year; total client assets in 2011 amounted to over $1.5 trillion. Fidelity today consists of approximately 40,000 employees working at 11 regional locations—10 in the United States and one in Toronto—plus 176 investor centers. Fidelity Investments provides financial benefits packages to more than 21,000 employers, and individual financial services to over 13 million account holders. Fidelity is the top provider of retirement savings plans in the workplace and the largest 401(k) manager in the United States.

Corporations of all sizes use audio/video conferencing to enhance communications and decrease travel costs. Cameras, ceiling speakers, structured cabling, digital projectors and screens create a system whereby users around the world can meet “face to face” without leaving their offices. Keeping these conferencing solutions updated with the latest technology and adding convenient touchscreen controls improve the system’s ease of use, speed and reliability, allowing the components to take a backseat while the participants are able to focus on the business at hand. This results in the most positive meeting experience possible for all users.

Yorktel commissioned ITAV Solutions to perform an extensive HD audio/video conferencing upgrade in Smithfield Amphitheaters A and B, a combination high-definition conference room in Fidelity Investments’ Smithfield, Rhode Island facility. Fidelity, Yorktel and IBM provided the equipment. ITAV’s goal was to upgrade the existing audio/video conferencing systems and supply Fidelity with updated technology.

ITAV Solutions installed a Cisco audio/video conferencing system which consisted of video, audio and control components. The video elements in master Room A included

  • One ceiling-mounted NEC projector
  • One Draper 133-inch screen, motorized and recessed into the ceiling
  • Two owner-furnished (OFE) PCs: a rack PC in the podium and a laptop on top of the podium, both with HDMI and VGA connections for digital and analog auto-switching
  • One Crestron HDMI matrix switcher
  • Two video teleconferencing (VTC) cameras
  • One C60 codec

Slave Room B featured the same projector, screen, switcher and PC arrangement, but no cameras or codec.

Audio consisted of one Polycom SoundStructure C16 VoIP interface in Room A, two OFE QSC amplifiers, OFE ceiling speakers and several microphones. Two Crestron AV2 control processors plus the switchers, amplifiers and codec were housed in the client’s own Middle Atlantic equipment racks, one in each room. All equipment is controlled by a touch-screen device with Crestron’s RoomView software.

ITAV Solutions brought over five decades of audiovisual experience to this extensive rollout for Fidelity Investments. Yorktel contracted ITAV Solutions to manage 10 projects across six cities during a two-week window over the winter holidays. The project involved a nationwide collaboration with more than 10 subcontractors working under ITAV Solutions’ project management staff. The first phase of this two-part project required a very aggressive two-week completion during the holiday season, notwithstanding the related impact on staffing levels among all of the subcontractors. ITAV Solutions managed phase I, which consisted of an installation across all six cities. The successful completion of phase I prompted an immediate request to manage phase II, which was completed directly after phase I and which also had a similar aggressive timeline.
